Membership
Membership to the society is classified as charter, regular, life, honorary, and sustaining.
No special qualifications are required to become a
member except an interest in microbiology. PSM has regional chapters in
Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and its members are arbitrarily
categorized into 9 divisions, namely, Basic Microbiology, Medical
Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Microbiology Education, and Veterinary
Microbiology for CLUSTER I and Agricultural Microbiology, Industrial
Microbiology, Aquatic Microbiology, and Environmental Microbiology for
CLUSTER II. Each division is represented in the Board of Directors.

Philippine Academy of Microbiology
PSM has an academic and accrediting arm known as the Philippine Academy of Microbiology (PAM), the members of which are mostly senior microbiologists in the country. The following are the objectives of the PAM:
- to develop and maintain a high standard of practice in the field of microbiology,
- to formulate rules, regulations and guidelines relative to accreditation, certification and membership to the PAM, and
- to accredit, certify and classify life members of the Society according to the defined standards and qualification requirements which may include written and/or oral examination.
