PSM BICOL

Bicol region is composed of 6 provinces, namely, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon. There are many persons and organizations in Bicol engaged in and interested in advancing the objectives of the PSM hence are eligible for membership but are not given a chance to become member or participate in the activities of the PSM. This was evident during the Cluster II Symposium held in Ateneo de Naga University last February 3, 2007, where more than 220 teachers, health and other microbiology-related professionals, and students attended the said symposium. Such overwhelming attendance is an indication of the interest of the Bicolanos to microbiology. At present, there are 36 old Bicolano members, but during the Cluster II symposium, 56 more were added as new members.

Mt MayonBicol Region is found at the southern part of Luzon. It is an 8- to 10-hour bus ride from Manila where most of the activities of PSM are held. This long distance from the NCR is one of the impediments of the Bicol PSM members to attend the PSM activities.
This number and diversity of interested individuals to the activities of the PSM and the distance of Bicol to NCR showed a promise for the creation of the Bicol Chapter of the PSM.
